(Limerick)<br \/>\nBy Madeleine Begun Kane<\/p>\n<p>A man got a sentence immense,<br \/>\nThen complained of a sleepy defense:<br \/>\n&#8220;My defense lawyer slept<br \/>\nWhich makes him inept,<br \/>\nSo a do-over trial makes sense.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>His lawyer contested the claim:<br \/>\n&#8220;I am not for that sentence to blame.<br \/>\nI slept just a while<br \/>\nAnd I ran a good trial.<br \/>\nEven dozing, I&#8217;m right on my game.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On this statement the lawyer won&#8217;t budge,<br \/>\nAnd he even is running for judge.<br \/>\nI suppose that he thinks<br \/>\nWhen he&#8217;s caught forty winks,<br \/>\nHis court clerk will just give him a nudge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This three-verse limerick is based on a real Texas criminal case: &#8220;Lawyer admits napping at trial, but rates his performance an 8 or a 9.&#8221; A Criminal Defense?
