It’s time to announce the latest Limerick of the Week based on submissions (on this blog and on Facebook) in last week’s Limerick-Off.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Congratulations to Jim Delaney, who wins Limerick of the Week for this funny verse:<\/p>\n

A fellow would often opine:
\n“You should say what you think; show some spine,
\nBut I’ve frequently found
\nAn opinion’s unsound
\nIf it glaringly differs from mine.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Congratulations to Fred Bortz<\/a>, who wins this week’s Facebook Friends’ Choice Award for this limerick which received the most Facebook “likes.”<\/p>\n

The physicist liked to opine
\nThat Schroedinger’s cat was just fine.
\nThen he opened the box
\nAnd alas, shock of shocks,
\nHe discovered a half-dead feline.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And congratulations to these Honorable Mention winners (in random order) Jane Shelton Hoffman, Brendan Beary, Colleen Murphy<\/a>, Mary Blackley, and Fred Bortz<\/a>. Here are their respective Honorable Mention limericks:<\/p>\n

Jane Shelton Hoffman: <\/p>\n

A boy fish was starting to pine
\nFor his missing girl fish, oh so fine.
\nSo where did she go?
\nWell, all that we know
\nIs that she’d reached the end of the line.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Brendan Beary: <\/p>\n

A fellow would often opine
\nOn the evils of whiskey and wine,
\nSo we townsfolk were tickled
\nOn finding him pickled
\nAs though he\u2019d been soaking in brine.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Colleen Murphy: <\/p>\n

The playwright, when panned, would opine
\nAfter drinking some glasses of wine,
\n“May those critics be throttled,
\nTheir attitudes bottled,
\nAnd put where the sun doesn’t shine!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mary Blackley: <\/p>\n

In a barrel handcrafted from pine
\nA corned beef was basting in brine,
\nRye bread and some carrots,
\nAnd sixteen large parrots.
\nOh, won’t you come over to dine?\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Colleen Murphy: <\/p>\n

My sister would frequently pine
\nOver ev\u2019ry last boyfriend of mine.
\nSo I found me another
\nWhose twin was a brother.
\nNow the four of us get along fine!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fred Bortz: <\/p>\n

On a lower bunk fashioned of pine,
\nThe trysting pair went to entwine.
\nThey squealed and they wriggled
\nAt least ’til I giggled.
\nThen they blushed, for the upper was mine.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
