Laughlin<\/a>, who jointly win a special Limerick Repartee Award for this limerick exchange:<\/p>\n<p>Fred Bortz: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The goy in the shul would say &#8220;Hi,&#8221;<br \/>\nNo matter how hard he would try.<br \/>\nHe struggled no doubt,<br \/>\nBut no &#8220;ch&#8221; would come out.<br \/>\nFor &#8220;L&#8217;chaim&#8221; his throat was too dry.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Will T. I mean to imply<br \/>\nIf you start off at 8<br \/>\nYou can vary your gait<br \/>\nAnd reach summit as ev\u2019ning is nigh.<\/p>\n<p>From the camp that you make, up on high<br \/>\nYou\u2019ll return the next day, (don\u2019t ask why)<br \/>\nDown the same path you used<br \/>\nSo you shan\u2019t be confused<br \/>\nLeave at 8, don\u2019t be late, do or die.<\/p>\n<p>Back at base, the sun\u2019s no longer high.<br \/>\nNow, for bluster and bragging rights vie.<br \/>\nTake a pencil or pen<br \/>\nAll you women and men.<br \/>\nHere\u2019s the question I want you to try:<\/p>\n<p>Is the likelihood mid, low, or high<br \/>\nOn your trips up and down, bye and bye<br \/>\nYou were at the same place<br \/>\nThough you varied your pace<br \/>\nAt the same time, on climb and reply.<\/p>\n<p>Since the difficult rating is high<br \/>\nAnd to show I don\u2019t mean to be sly<br \/>\n\u201cIs it likely or not<br \/>\nYou stood on the same spot<br \/>\nOn both day\u2019s at Time X and Place Y?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And congratulations to the two people who managed to solve Steve&#8217;s puzzle. Craig Dykstra solved it first, soon followed by Sue Dulley.  Here&#8217;s Craig&#8217;s solution:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nTo Steve Whitred, I wave and say \u201cHi.\u201d<br \/>\nAnd applaud this most challenging guy.<br \/>\nBut the answer is clear<br \/>\nAnd I\u2019ll spell it out here<br \/>\nIn the hopes you will understand why.<\/p>\n<p>Steve asked if it\u2019s low, mid or high.<br \/>\nHow likely it was that this guy<br \/>\nWould pass the same rock<br \/>\nThe same time on the clock<br \/>\nAs the previous day he walked by.<\/p>\n<p>The answer is \u201cpretty damn high.\u201d<br \/>\nIt\u2019s 100%, and here\u2019s why:<br \/>\nInstead of one man<br \/>\nLet\u2019s use two, Dan and Stan<br \/>\nTo identical rules they comply.<\/p>\n<p>At eight, Dan starts low, Stan starts high.<br \/>\nTo the other end both guys will fly.<br \/>\nAt exactly one place<br \/>\nThey must meet face to face<br \/>\nUnless they can logic defy.<\/p>\n<p>So unless you\u2019re exceedingly high,<br \/>\nYou can see that both hikes by ONE guy<br \/>\nMust cross the same way<br \/>\nBut just off by one day \u2013<br \/>\nNow my work here is done, so good bye.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And here&#8217;s Sue&#8217;s solution:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The day I hike down from up high<br \/>\nMy twin who&#8217;s as sluggish as I<br \/>\nWill, at the same time,<br \/>\nDuplicate my &#8216;up&#8217; climb &#8211;<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll meet somewhere, at some time, oh my. <\/p>\n<p>The one place, not terribly high<br \/>\nWhere we meet on the trail, on the fly,<br \/>\nDetermines in space<br \/>\nThe one &#8220;same-time-same-place&#8221;<br \/>\nThat Steve&#8217;s asking about &#8211; would I lie?\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And congratulations to these Honorable Mention winners (in random order) <a href=\"http:\/\/murphymusing.blogspot.com\/\">Colleen Murphy<\/a>, Sue Dulley, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davincipress.com\/\">Kevin Ahern<\/a>, Jane Shelton Hoffman, and <a href=\"http:\/\/therealricklime.blogspot.ca\/ \">Steve Whitred<\/a>.
