I&#8217;ve written both a limerick and a four-liner, altering the limerick&#8217;s first line a bit so it conforms to\u00a0limerick rhythm rules.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s my limerick:<\/p>\n<p>Time Travel<br \/>\nBy Madeleine Begun Kane<\/p>\n<p>Kindly stop all the clocks.\u00a0 Cut the phone.<br \/>\nPull the plug on each &#8220;smart&#8221;-thing you own.<br \/>\nAin&#8217;t the silence sublime<br \/>\nAs you go back in time?<br \/>\nWith your thoughts you&#8217;re at last all alone.<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s\u00a0my four-liner:<\/p>\n<p>I wandered lonely as a cloud,<br \/>\nWhile wondering why I felt so cowed<br \/>\nBy life, while others lived unbowed.<br \/>\nMust be\u00a0 like them, I vowed, aloud.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> My limerick seems appropriate for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.giftypedia.com\/Simplicity_Day\">Simplicity Day<\/a>, celebrated July 12th in honor of Henry David Thoreau&#8217;s birthday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I love a good challenge, and Tricia at Miss Rumphius has provided a tough one: Write a poem that begins\u00a0with one of five preexisting lines.
