It’s time to announce the latest Limerick of the Week based on submissions (on this blog and on Facebook) in last week’s Limerick-Off.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Congratulations to Craig Dykstra, who wins Limerick of the Week for this funny verse:<\/p>\n

In our chimney, old Santa was blue.
\nHe was stuck, and not sure what to do.
\nMy son, filled with dread
\nAsked \u201cIs Santa Claus dead?\u201d
\n\u201cNo, he just has a bad case of flue.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Congratulations to Kathy El-Assal. who wins a Special Limerick Award for her limerick about the Newtown massacre:<\/p>\n

Founding Fathers just couldn’t foretell
\nThat “militias” might lead to this Hell.
\nThough to laws we defer,
\nWe plainly prefer
\nThe “right to bare arms” like Michelle.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Congratulations to Colleen Murphy<\/a>, who wins this week’s Facebook Friends’ Choice Award, for this limerick which received the most Facebook “likes.”<\/p>\n

Our forefathers roll in their grave
\nWhen they see how our people behave.
\nTheir doctrine amended
\nWas never intended
\nTo murder our youth, but to save.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And congratulations to these Honorable Mention winners (in random order) Chris Doyle, Scott Crowder, Craig Dykstra, Jamie Hutchinson, and Johanna Richmond. Here are their respective Honorable Mention limericks:<\/p>\n

Chris Doyle: <\/p>\n

A gazelle is alone, feeling blue,
\nAs he paces his pen at the zoo.
\nHe’s been wondering if he
\nWill get up a stiffy
\nAnd ever go wooing a gnu.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Scott Crowder: <\/p>\n

A woman who always wore blue
\nDidn\u2019t manage to get to the loo,
\nAnd now can be seen
\nWearing panties of green,
\nAs blue mixed with yellow will do.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Craig Dykstra: <\/p>\n

The sign on the door was in blue:
\n\u201cShoes and shirts, or we cannot serve you.\u201d
\nBut that waitress looked pissed
\nSo I\u2019m thinkin\u2019 that list
\nMaybe shoulda had \u201cpants\u201d on it, too.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jamie Hutchinson:<\/p>\n

The regatta announcer felt blue
\nAnd his face turned a scarlet-tinged hue
\nWhen he slipped: \u201cTeam One\u2019s sloop
\nIs the best of the group,
\nBut as sailors go, I like Two\u2019s crew.\u201d\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And a 2-verse limerick from Johanna Richmond:<\/p>\n

Ain\u2019t it lovely when out of the blue,
\nSomeone\u2019s kindhearted words pull you through?
\nHow you all make me laugh!
\nThat and half a carafe,
\nAnd I\u2019m suddenly feeling brand new.<\/p>\n

But truly, you masters of jest
\nHave brightened my world \u2013you\u2019re the best.
\nShould have known all the while
\nWhere to go for a smile \u2013
\nLove you all! Now I\u2019ll give it a rest.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
