In light of Friday’s Connecticut tragedy, I’m offering you an alternative<\/em>: You may write a limerick related to the shootings, using any first line. Next week I’ll present an extra<\/em> award — one for the best limerick regarding this tragedy.<\/p>\n

And now, getting back to my regular Sunday challenge: It\u2019s Limerick-Off time, once again. And that means I write a limerick, and you write your own, using the same first line. Then you post your limerick here and, if you\u2019re a Facebook user, on Facebook too<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The best submission will be crowned Limerick Of The Week. (Here\u2019s last week\u2019s Limerick Of The Week Winner<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

How will your poems be judged? By meter, rhyme, cleverness, and humor. (If you\u2019re feeling a bit fuzzy about limerick writing rules, here’s my How To Write A Limerick<\/em><\/a> article.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll announce the Limerick of the Week Winner next Sunday, right before I post next week\u2019s Limerick-Off. So that gives you a full week to submit your clever, polished verse. Your submission deadline is Saturday at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Time.)<\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019ll join me in writing a limerick with this first line:<\/p>\n

A woman who always wore blue…*<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A fellow who always wore blue…*<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Blue Limerick
\nBy Madeleine Begun Kane<\/p>\n

A woman who always wore blue
\nJoined a group where just navy would do
\nShe liked turquoise and teal
\nAnd saw aqua’s appeal.
\nBut her militant view? Navy — Ew!<\/p>\n
