{"id":1527,"date":"2010-02-14T16:57:25","date_gmt":"2010-02-14T20:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.madkane.com\/humor_blog\/?p=1527"},"modified":"2011-09-27T17:10:34","modified_gmt":"2011-09-27T21:10:34","slug":"ted-alexandro-comedy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.madkane.com\/humor_blog\/2010\/02\/14\/ted-alexandro-comedy\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick Ode To Ted Alexandro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I&#8217;ve mentioned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madkane.com\/humor_blog\/2009\/12\/25\/rebeck-understudy-review\/\">previously,<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comixny.com\/\">Comix<\/a> is one of my favorite New York City comedy clubs. And it sure didn&#8217;t disappoint Friday night when we saw the hilarious <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tedalexandro.com\/\">Ted Alexandro<\/a> and &#8220;Friends&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/standupwithpetedominick.com\">Pete Dominick<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/joederosa\">Joe Derosa<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.morganmurphy.net\/morgan_murphy\/home.html\">Morgan Murphy<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Headliner Alexandro, a former elementary school music teacher, was the highlight of the evening.  I love his comic sensibility, his pacing and his fearless use of  silence. But hubby Mark and I also enjoyed the other comedians, especially Morgan Murphy, who somehow manages to sound both depressed and funny at the same time. <\/p>\n<p>Getting back to Alexandro, in one segment of his routine Alexandro waxes funny about teaching little kids the recorder (presumably the children&#8217;s version, known as a flutophone.)   <\/p>\n<p>This comedy bit inspired me (an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madkane.com\/humor_blog\/2006\/11\/25\/give-me-an-a-limerick\/\">oboe<\/a> performance major who once taught the oboe) to write a limerick in honor of Alexandro&#8217;s transition from music teacher to standup comic:<\/p>\n<p>Limerick Ode To Ted Alexandro<br \/>\nBy Madeleine Begun Kane<\/p>\n<p>A funny young fellow named Ted,<br \/>\nWho majored in musical ed,<br \/>\nTaught kiddies recorduh.<br \/>\nAn instrument?  Sorta.<br \/>\nBut now he&#8217;s a comic, instead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong>  Ted Alexandro inspired me to write him another limerick when he joined the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madkane.com\/madness\/2011\/09\/27\/ted-alexandro-wall-street-protest\/\">Wall Street protests.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I&#8217;ve mentioned previously, Comix is one of my favorite New York City comedy clubs.
