But I&#8217;m certainly not the only limerick game in town.  So here&#8217;s a round-up of some regular (and semi-regular) limerick competitions. <\/p>\n<p><center><b>FREQUENt LIMERICK CONTESTS<\/b><\/center><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mad Kane&#8217;s Limerick-Offs:<\/strong> On alternate weeks, I post two limerick writing challenges. In one of them, I furnish the rhyme word, and you write the rest.  And in the other, I offer a limerick theme alternative, using any rhyme word. And while its contest doesn&#8217;t seem to have a permanent home, you can usually find Salon&#8217;s most recent <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/topic\/poetry\/\">limerick contest posts here<\/a>. (Update: This contest seems to have been suspended.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lim-Ber Your Mind<\/strong> Weekly Lim-Ber Your Mind limerick challenges are offered every Saturday.  To participate, join the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/groups.yahoo.com\/group\/limericks_n_haiku\/\">limericks_n_haiku Yahoo group<\/a> and watch for Saturday contest announcements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><center><b>LIMERICK COMPETITIONS HELD AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR<\/b><\/center><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Washington Post Style Invitational:<\/strong> Every week, the Style Invitational offers an entertaining wordplay-oriented contest, and twice a year its contest features limericks. You can always find the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/style-invitational-weekly-contest-archives\/2010\/07\/06\/AB15r7D_linkset.html\">current contest and most recent contest winners here.<\/a> To receive a weekly notification of the new contest, e-mail &#8220;the Empress,&#8221; Pat Myers, at <a href=\"mailto:myersp@washpost.com?subject=Join Invitational Mailing List&#038;body=Please add me to the Invitational mailing list.\">myersp@washpost.com Subject: Join Invitational Mailing List<\/a>. Also check out the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/5158028689\/\">Style Invitational Devotees page on Facebook<\/a>.\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Saturday Evening Post<\/strong>: Six times a year, the Saturday Evening Post runs a limerick illustration-captioning contest, and the winning limerick earns its author a $25 prize. You can always find the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.saturdayeveningpost.com\/limerick-contest\">current contest here<\/a> and the most <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.saturdayeveningpost.com\/limerick\">current winners list here.<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Charlotte Observer:<\/strong>  Every March, the Charlotte Observer runs a month-long limerick contest, consisting of four weekly politics and public policy limerick competitions. You can find the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotteobserver.com\/limericks\">most recent limerick contest here<\/a>.\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Spectator: <\/strong> The Spectator&#8217;s weekly writing contests occasionally feature limericks. You can find the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spectator.co.uk\/life\/competition\/\">Spectator&#8217;s weekly contests here.<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>OEDILF:<\/strong>  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oedilf.com\/db\/Lim.php\">OEDILF,<\/a> an international limerick writing project dedicated to creating a dictionary defining words via limericks, runs an in-house limerick competition four to six times a year.  To participate, join OEDILF, participate in its &#8220;limerictionary&#8221; project,  and check out <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oedilf.com\/forum\/viewforum.php?f=7\">OEDILF&#8217;s forum<\/a> to find the latest  in-house limerick contest.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><center><b>ANNUAL LIMERICK CONTESTS<\/b><\/center><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Limerick Gathering Festival:<\/strong> This yearly  competition asks you to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.limerickgatheringfest.com\/whats-on\/limericks-international-poetry-competetion\/\">&#8220;Bring Your Limericks To Limerick.&#8221;<\/a> Previously an All-Ireland competition, the 2013 contest is international, and the finalists from online submissions &#8220;will be offered an opportunity to travel to Limerick to do battle for the title \u2018Best Limerick in the World 2013!\u2019&#8221;\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Saline Celtic Festival:<\/strong> Once a year, the Saline Celtic Festival takes place in Saline Michigan. It includes music, dance, and a Celtic-themed limerick contest. Check <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.salineceltic.org\">this page in late spring<\/a> for information about the current contest. (Update:  I&#8217;ve learned that the 2013 Festival won&#8217;t include a limerick competition component.  Let&#8217;s hope that the limerick contest is restored in 2014.)<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Metamorphosism:<\/strong> Every February, Metamorphosism celebrates <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.metamorphosism.com\/?tag=limerick-contest\">St. Valentine&#8217;s Day with a limerick contest<\/a>. Themes vary each year, so check the site early each February for current information.\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Spokesman-Review:<\/strong> Every February, The Spokesman-Review holds a limerick contest to celebrate St. Patrick&#8217;s Day.  The contest was relaunched in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spokesman.com\/blogs\/hbo\/2013\/feb\/07\/st-patricks-limerick-contest-begins\/\">early February 2013<\/a>, and this search <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spokesman.com\/search\/?q=limericks+contest\">for limericks contest<\/a> should help you find future contests.\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Larson Family Winery:<\/strong>  Each February, the winery holds a limerick contest.  Not surprisingly, both the limericks and the prizes are wine-related.  Check the blog in early February for <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.larsonfamilywinery.com\/blog.html\">contest info.<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Imagine Learning, Inc:<\/strong> Each March, Imagine Learning holds a St. Patrick&#8217;s Day limerick contest. The <a target=\"_blank\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.imaginelearning.com\/blog\/index.php\/2013\/03\/how-to-write-a-limerick-2\/\"> 2013 contest is here<\/a>, with special consideration &#8220;given to limericks with an educational flavor, and also to student submissions.&#8221; For future contests, check the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imaginelearning.com\/blog\/\">blog home page in early March<\/a>.\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Fountain Pen Geeks:<\/strong> Every March, Fountain Pen Geeks holds a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/fpgeeks.com\/category\/humor\/\">limerick contest<\/a> in honor of  St. Patrick&#8217;s Day.  The rules of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/fpgeeks.com\/2013\/03\/fpgeeks-1st-annual-limerick-contest\/\">2013 contest are here<\/a>.\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Crow&#8217;s Nest:<\/strong>  Every March, the Crow&#8217;s Nest Restaurant\/Tavern in Venice, Florida holds a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.crowsnest-venice.com\/components\/com_rseventspro\/assets\/images\/files\/limerick%20entry%202013.pdf\">St. Patrick&#8217;s Day limerick contest<\/a>. You may enter via email or snail mail, and the 1st place prize is $100.  (Based on previous winning entries, the limerick theme seems to be wide upon.)\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Inklings Bookshop:<\/strong> In March, Inklings Bookshop, in Yakima Washington, hosts its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.inklingsbookshop.com\/event\/limerick-contest\">annual limerick contest.<\/a> Submissions are via email, the prize is an Inklings gift certificate, and no specific theme is mentioned, at least for its first (2013) contest.\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shipwrecked Mariners&#8217; Society<\/strong> Every March, the Shippedwrecked Mariners&#8217; Society celebrates World Poetry Day with a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.shipwreckedmariners.org.uk\/Home\/MediaCentre.aspx\">maritime-themed limerick contest.<\/a> Email <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.shipwreckedmariners.org.uk\/Home\/Events\/SeafaringLimerickCompetition2013.aspx\">your Seafaring Limerick Competition 2013<\/a> entries to <a HREF=\"mailto:laurac@acceleris-mc.com\">laurac@acceleris-mc.com<\/a> or via <a target=\"_blank\"href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ShipwreckedMariners\">the Society&#8217;s Facebook page<\/a> by April 11th.\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Glimmerglass Opera:<\/strong> Early each year, The <a target=\"_blank\"  href=\"http:\/\/glimmerglass.org\">Glimmerglass Opera Guild<\/a> announces its yearly opera-related limerick contest.
