Paying Lots Of Bread … For Toast (Limerick)

I read about horrifying trends, so you don’t have to. How’d you like some three and four-dollars-per-slice “artisanal toast?”

Artisanal toast’s a new trend.
Does this four-dollar-slice fad portend
Even worse things to come?
Perhaps hipster-style gum?
Or lim’ricks, bespoke, pric’ly penned?

  1. Gerald Fleischmann says:

One buying a slice knows so little
About finance; no jot and no tittle.
    Even worse for that oaf:
    Had he purchased the loaf,
He’d break even by selling the mittel.

  2. OMG. Not my kinda toast!!!!

I like your humor in raising the flag for a serious change. What used to be “merely homemade” is now priced as Local and therefore worth paying fair trade prices for–or unfair inflated prices. I don’t know, but I am one who eats less to eat more healthy and local. I don’t know if I am conned into pretending I’m wealthy or participating in an awareness-raising boycott.
