Always struggled with the nature Haiku but in seeing that a Senryu can draw from these approaches, I am getting this form more

1. Reflections/Observations of fickle or unusual or hypocritical or silliness of human behaviour

2. Word Play – using words in an unusual [and perhaps technically incorrect] way or using a circumstance in an usual way

3. Slapstick Humour Derived from Human Behaviour [Chaplinesque Humour] or strange situations

4. Uncharacteristic Behaviour of particular groups

5. Inventive or Creative Fantasy or Clever Juxtaposition

6. Reflections on Nature/Animals in the Issa mode

This was fun. I had to follow your link to learn first what the rules were in writing a limerick. When I write poetry, I don't think about rules, so this was interesting.

I'm not sure about a haiku yet. I don't get it.

I really enjoyed the challenge this week...even if my limerick <a href="http://bevies-place.livejournal.com/#bevies_place38041" rel="nofollow"> Holiday Cruise</a> is a little 'shameful'. However, my <a href="http://bevies-place.livejournal.com/#bevies_place37669" rel="nofollow"> Holiday Senryu</a> is a little better...even if a little angry.

And unlike Granny Smith, I find haikus easier to write than limericks.

I enjoyed both limerick and your haiku. I have never been able to write a humorous haiku, but limericks are easy for me if not always as humorous as I wish thay were!

I love both of these. The first one reminded me of a long ago trip to Jamaica during which it took me six of my ten days to figure out that it rained at the same time every afternoon and that that time happened to be minutes after I made my trek to the beach each day. I always enjoy your wry humor.

Thanks! I've had both these experiences. It would take me at least the first three days of a week-long vacation to get out of "work" mode and into relaxing. :-)

My haiku might not seem like what a vacation is, but I've literally spent about $200 on books since I've been on vacation.
