Many years ago my wife and I built a place on the California coast. I had just turned 55. We had some things to drop off at the dump, and I saw that on turning 55, I was entitled to a half price senior discount. We pulled up to the dump and I mentioned to the lady that I was entitled to the senior discount. She replied, "You're kidding". I had to show her my driver's license.
